I am new to the board and have been trying to find some cheap ways to make my 1995 2.5L a little bit faster and was looking for some input. I was thinking an air filter and the SVT exhaust, was wondering what people thought of these mods and would I see noticable gains, also the best brand of air filter for this application. I am open to other options for performance gains, I want to get an exhast system but do not want that raspy Honda sound. Thanks.

i recommend the 7" K&N. ive seen quite a few people running that and is better than the KKM intake since the KKM causes turbulent airflow. Also, if your looking for the best sounding exhaust, I personally think true duals is the way to go. It can be a bit pricey ($300-1200), but it probably nets the best hp gains properly setup, best sounding with little to no rasp, and gives a deep sound. Other mods you may want to consider that are cheap would be an optimized throttle body and maybe even optimize your secondaries, gut the precats (do not gut the main cat!), clean your UIM/LIM for any carbon build up and possibly port match, and possibly an Apexi S-AFC which you can pick up for like $300. The Apexi may or may not give much more peak hp, but from observing from the dyno day this weekend, after tuning the Apexi, it gave quite a bit more power under the curve through out the entire rpm band. Just my .02

you know other cars can sound "raspy" not just hondas and imports alike.....you dont do your exhaust mods right and that duratec of yours can sound pretty raspy as well....

Jim, does it matter if the K&N filter is tapered or straight? And what is the biggest filter that will fit in the SVT's?What entails in optimizing the throttle body? I think I've already asked you about this. OK no more questions

i dont think it matters if its tapered or not, but from my understanding about the kkm, the inverted cone on the end causes turbulent air. the biggest filter ive known that will fit is a 9" K&N. The optimized TB includes replacing the stock throttle body plate screws with some flush mount screws or pop rivets. im not sure which one rick blackford uses. Also sanding down the TB plate to tapered edge for better airflow and sanding down the inside of the TB. Optimizing the secondaries pretty much includes the same thing.

I would look else where. Do a search for K&N on yahoo and see what you get.

i was very close to doing the throttle body op. but when i pulled the vacume hose off there was a sticker there saying something like not to adjust the screws because of some kind of film or coating. i called Ford and they said that the screws are "welded" in and cant be removed and risk breaking the cross bar or bottom of the plate.
