I don't know how many remember the original JL woofers, the JL W1 series. When they were released, the reason they received so much attention is because they offered outstanding performance at 20-30.00 below the competition and sometimes more. They made a name for themselves and pretty soon, it seemed that every competition vehicle had their woofers. Now, they are simply cashing in on their vast success, and I can't blame them. If people stop buying them, the prices will drop. If places in your area are not selling them, they are probably justified. Remember, the 2 for 79.00 Pioneers and Sonys are going to outsell 200-500.00 woofers on probably a 10 or 20-1 margin. If you have limited showroom space and warehouse space, the big sellers are going to be the priority.

JL has awesome equipment... Everything I've ever owned of theirs has been great. Right now I have one 10" JL Wsomething or other (I forget) and almost every person's jaw drops when they get in the car, hear it, and then find out it's only one 10" sub. It may be expensive, but damn, it hits hard and sounds bad ass.

Yep, I remember well. Back then, if you had PPI amps, Quart mids, Alpine head, and JL subs, you were pretty much guaranteed a top 3 finish at most competitions. Of course, the system had to be setup reasonably well, but not great. I still have 2 10w5s (not being used) that I picked up for about 120 each back then...now they would be a lot more.

I have one 8" JL sub I'm using. I'm giving it about twice it's RMS and it still sounds better than the two jensen 10"s i had in there. Obviously it's not as loud, but in about 5 mins. I'm gonna go take my rear seat out so the sound will fill cabin more. Maybe then I can turn the "bass boost" off on the amp.

Not sure about that. The W1 and W4 were better subs than the W2s and W5s of the same vintage. I believe the W2s and W5s were produced specifically for ported enclosures which differentiated them from the W1 and W4s.
