I have searched a couple of times, without luck. I have a 99 contour SE v6 ATX, with a problem I have never seen or heard of. I cannot figuire it out at all. here it is

My mom noticed this first then asked me what it was.(for reference as to how noticable it is)

When ever you rev the engine to 2500 or more there is a very noticable whine. This happen in neutral or any gear. I have check the intake side, and I do not believe it has anything to do with the exhaust, as it is not air-flow dependent. (I had the car at WOT at 4,000 and at 4000 no throttle, same sound). From this logic, I have deduced that is in the engine, or something connected to it, ie pulleys, water pump, bearings. The car has 105,000 and is 3.5 years old. This maybe a simple problem for some old school mechanics, or it might be something highly technical, I do not know.

The waterpump has not been replaced. The weather was much warmer two days ago, and maybe it just gave up the ghost.

Any help you have would be very nice

I am no expert my a long run but I believe this sounds like alternator whine. I assume it gets lounder as you rev engine. check to see if it comes from passenger side wheel well area or under hood passenger side. let know you have my curiousity! If not maybe someone else knows.

That's all I can come up with, pully or maybe moosing. My Ford Dealer said I need a new IAC on mine for the moosing. The guys here say the TBH fix will fix the moosing but I have yet to try it. I plan on it though- it's $120 less than replacing the IAC!

well, I don't believe it is the alternator, as that was replaced under esp at 70,000, I did however notice that the alternator is missing a cap over the bearings, at least I think there should be a cap. But the bearings look clean. I checked all of the belts and none of them seem worn.

Also,I am almost positive it is not moosing.

thanks again
