Hey group,
i have a pregnant wife and I am in need of new tires for my 99 SE. I have the Pirelli Sport Veloce now, and have been happy with them. Was considering the same or maybe Bridgestone Potenza/Turanza as replacement if I change. Does anyone have any opinions on these tires.. Also, due to the pregnant wife thing, i was thinking of going to a 205/65 (as opposed to 60) size tire looking for slightly more comfortable cruising.. any thoughts?
thanks!

pregnancy is a short-term illness, tires will last much longer than that, unless you plan on keeping her pregnant for many years. how about a little seat cushion?
contours, deloreans & fiats, oh my!

True, it is short term, but the effects last a lifetime! I guess I am thinking more in terms of comfort and safety, and that is why i would be happy with a lower performance tire now. Not that young anymore! Besides, i have to think of all those trips around the block to put the kid to sleep!

If you do want a little taller sidewall, go with 195/65. But, picking a different tire may be good enough. Those Pirellis are relatively stiff. Something like this Sumitomo should soften the ride up, or those Turanzas as well. Something in an S, or T rating may be more appropriate.

Not worth it.
There's more variance in ride quality from changing brands/models than by changing tire size and screwing up the look of the car (and the speedo).
Get something softer if you must, like a touring tire. Go for H rated or T rated tire like the Yoko Avid T4 or Turanza or even a Conti touring tire. Even the Firehawk SH30 is a soft riding H-rated tire with excellent wet traction. (In no way similar to the Firerocks that come as OEM tires)

Hi, Thanks for all the suggestions, it looks like the Turanza might be the winner as long as they will last and drive smooth and quiet! It would have been nice if Ford would have put a little more soundproofing under the car, some undercoating in the wheel well areas helped some, but the Florida rain sounds like hail! I guess maybe i should have put out the bucks for the undercoating, i don't even remember it offered to me (pretty rare for a dealer not to try to push that!)
