Hello,
I have a 2.5 liter Duratec engine in a 1997 Contour LX. My problem is that I have a apparent coolant leak coming from underneath my water pump. My car is not overheating yet and everything else is fine. I replaced the front of the water pump in January so I know I had the proper gasket for it. I suspect that it is the seal to my water pump but what can I do?
Is there anything that I can get to make the seal better when I look at it this weekend? I am sure that the actual water pump is working fine so I do not want to replace it.

You have to replace the whole water pump if it's leaking underneath it. The 1995-1998 waterpumps are bad. The impeller shatters and it causes it to overheat. You should replace it asap before it starts to overheat.

I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be a hose connecting to the water pump. I just took it off, cleaned where the hose connects off and reapplied the hose, leak is gone. Make sure it's not coming from somewhere else and running down to the waterpump. I had to get underneath mine to see it.
I believe it was the hose to the right of the pump by the battery area.

Unfortunately a few members have experienced this with replacement metal pumps. Replacement again, the only solution and should be covered by warranty (part only, not your labor).
