Transmissions aren't rated by Horsepower, they are rated by Torque.
If anyone remebers what the MTX is rated for, please chime in here.
I do know that the ATX (CD4E) is rated for 200 ft/lbs.

The MTX-75 transmission has a few issues, but it can hold the torque. The open differential is the apparent weak spot with its spider gears as it tends to be the only geared item to break. I thought mine was going but it turned out to be a bad right front wheel bearing. I've been running a 3L for over a year and recently turbocharged it. It has held the power fine. I cracked the transmission open two days ago and there was nothing wrong inside of it. The spider gears in the diff look fine. I am going to put a torsen into it now, should be here in the week!

There were cases of people actually stripping the 1st 2ond and 3ird gears; they were a race team (Mirco I believe) that were getting 300+ HP out of thier 2.5 SVT motors. So be careful what you do.

there's a big difference between a race trakc driven 300hp beast and a street driven one. There are people on this site with 350+ crank hp and stock transmissions. Street cars will never see the abuse of a race car. I would not worry about stripping gears.

I agree, you're going to be ruining drive shafts long before you strip gears...

hehe, dont mean to be an ass, but we dont have a drive shaft all we got is our transaxel (transmission + axle) i was kinda hoping that if i just dont WOT it till the momentum has caught and just not shifting hard, would keep it in good status. whatcha think?

I was waiting for someone to jump on that , went to edit it but I was past the time limit.
I think you should be fine if you avoid hard launches, but it is not going to be fail-safe obviously. My original point was that there are other drivetrain components that will fail long before you start shearing gearsets.

If you have a quaife you should be ok as long as your not "on it" all the time.
