Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting K&N Filter but no Box????

I just got my 96' Contour SE last saturday on the 6th and i opened the hood and saw the K&N filter but there was no box on it and there was a sensor that was not plugged (heat sensor i think) in, because of this my(check engine light is on) im pretty sure its because of this sensor not being plugged in. Can anyone help or tell me where i can get a box for my filter and how do i hook up the sensor and if the engine will light will go off after i do this.....plz help

The sensor your talking about I believe is the intake air temp sensor. This will not cause a CEL if it's laying around. This sensor would typically snap into a hole in the top of the airbox, near where the MAF connects. Does your car have a cone type K&N filter or a K&N panel filter attached to the top part of the airbox. (The bottom half is gone right?)

You will need a few parts to put it back to stock.

You didn't check the engine bay before buying the car???

Maybe the old owner has all the original equipment?

Yes the bottom half is gone and it is a cone type filter and + plus i didnt buy the car i got it as a gift so iam just tring to fix it and i did look for a hole but there is none alls you see is the filter connected to my engine and isnt connected to my fender and it has no box can i keep the air filter and put a box on it? then connect my air intake sensor??
