The Coolant temperature gauge on my dashboard has been dead for a few weeks now.  I am fairly sure that it is the snesor itself that needs to be replaced.  I undersatdn that there are actually three different coolant temperature sensors:  One that feeds nto the PCM, one that controls the fan, and one that feeds the gauge on the dashboard.  When I've gone searching for this part in variosu online sources, I get lead to one temperature sensor, with nothing to clearly indicate which of the theee it is.  All all three of these snsors the same part, or is there a different part for each sensor?  What do I need to know in order to make sure that I get the right one?

(Well, OK, one mod.  Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios.  I liked the Tempo's radio better.  That counts as a mod, doesn't it?  I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare.  I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars.  Does this count as a mod?  If so, I guess I have two mods.  Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

There's only two--one that feeds into the PCM (the PCM controls the fan) and the one for the gauge.

See this listing:

http://www.smpcorp.com/catalog/catalog1.asp?SEL=FORDTSU&maker=FORD&prod=&sel1=1

Your local NAPA or Carquest should be able to cross that SMP number. (A "temperature sending unit" is for the gauges, a "coolant temperature sensor" is for the PCM)

I just put one in on Tuesday. The sensor is located under the thermostat housing. The one on top is for the fans the one on the bottom is for the gage. I don't know about a third one.
It took me a while to find the correct part, the auto parts couldn't match up the plug. The one I ended up with is a Borg/Warner part #WT6.I hope this helps.

I thought that our dashboards were air cooled. Maybe if they were water cooled, they wouldn't warp so bad!
