It appears I have joined an elite group
of '98 SVT owners with a serious knock
and engine failure, so a little history
is in order, Mobil 1 from 37K miles,
which it had on it when I bought it.
I started with 3W30, and switched to 10W30
at about 45K, just so I didn't have to
listen to the tensioner rattle after 8
Hours of sitting... A week ago, I had a
"tap" at about 3K rpm, after a roadtrip
to Ocean Shores, coming off the freeway
it started to knock. Fortunately for me,
I got the wife and the cat home, and that
was it...
So I'm thinking a 3.0L short block is in
order as the repair...
