Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could give me some helpful hints on replacing the front sway bar bushings? I have the chilton manual and it says that you have to drop the whole bar and I was wondering if thats nessasary? Any tips would be apreciated!

Hey Jerry,

Not being a jerk but a couple of us have written some very indepth ways of doing that in the past. Mine was about 8 months ago, but others have been more recent. Its a pain, and I dropped the part of the subframe closest to the bushings, tho others have said you don't need to. Consensus seems to be taking the 13mm (or is it 11/15?) and grind it down thinner...so it'll fit between the bolt head and firewall.

drop the rear part of the front subframe....

it EASILY adds 2" to get to thoses bolts... that 2" diff is huge when you only start with about 1/2". at CougarFest 2K2 we did a front sway bar bushing swap in the parking lot in less than 1/2 hour using this method

You only need remove 2 bolts to lower the subframe, however i do recommend putting a jack under the rear roll resistor so that you don't put too much tension on the rest of the subframe.
