You joke, but they actually have a beautiful campus. Buildings from the late 1800's, early 1900's. The grass has always looked perfect when I've driven through. Neat little Main Street right off campus w/ restaurants and shops. Too bad Oxford, OH is in the middle of no where.

Better than the buzzards in Auburn.

I had four years of science when I applied to GT. Certainly didn't hurt me any. Fight and claw to get in to physics in high school. I don't think I met a single person there that had not had physics in high school, so you'd be starting behind the curve if you don't take it. Since you're coming from in state, anything you can do to make you appear to stand out helps.

Let me chime in here...seeing as though I am at a top 3 engineering school in the nation (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign). Definitely take physics and chemistry, and definitely take AP calculus. Take calculus in high school! Take as many calcs as they offer in high school! I was awesome in math in high school, than I got here and I was like lost. Math is huge, and it is a [censored] to get through, but you have to do it for engineering.

At U of I the 3 semester calc classes you have to take (math 120, 130, 242 or aka calc 1,2, and 3) at definite weed-out classes. They are harder than [censored], but they do that on purpose. Also the chemistry class you have to take for engineering is another weed-out, that class is hard as hell too.

I took physics my senior year of high school, and chem my junior year. I recommend 4 years of science in high school, and definitely takin at least one calc class in H.S. You will need all the prep you can get with these classes!

Unlike Oxford, Mississippi which is a booming metropolis!

That's another campus worthy of a visit, BTW. So what you're going for engineering, fake an interest in business and take a day or week.

Regardless of the curriculum though, visit as many campuses as you can because they'll all give you an idea of what you like in a univ. Oh, and being the person who compiles data for these college guides, they're crap--visiting the school personally is the only true assessment.

As a Techie MSME grad myself, I have to plug GATech. Go Jackets. I agree, look up the admin office and get the requirements - heck, here's the website to get you started.
Freshman admissions info for GT, and of course the woodruff school website.
If you're into mechanics of materials, PM me and I'll give you the name and email of my old advisor to help point you in the right direction. Good luck!

I agree that you need to take at least Calc in HS. My Calc I class was crazy, I knew how to do everything and very quickly, and the midterms still took me the full time. My friends who were either not good at it or had not had it were gone. Physics on the other hand, can be picked up right away in the college atmosphere, at least at my poor school. I did not have it in HS but at the first level it is more common sense and illustrated than subjects like Calc and Chemistry.

What engineering are you doing?? I'm a electrical engineering student at the University of Akron.
