I just replaced the front brake pads on my Mystique. The inner driver-side pad was worn just about down to the metal. The other three pads all have about 1/8" to 1/4" of pad material remaining. I have to assume that it's not normal for the one pad to have worn so much faster than the others. Is there something I should be looking for as a possible cause?

Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios. I liked the Tempo's radio better. That counts as a mod, doesn't it? I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare. I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars. Does this count as a mod? If so, I guess I have two mods. Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

A common problem, pins that calipers slide on should be cleaned and lubricated with anti-sieze.
98 Mystique LS v6 atx 110,000km
97 Contour LX v6 atx 125,000km
stock CD on LS, cass on LX
spoiler, tinted windows on LS only
4 wheel discs on LX only
All other available options on both

The calipers should float on the slide pins to stay centered over the rotor. Uneven pad wear can be a sign that the slide pins are worn, pitted, rusted etc. Should be able to check for smooth float on the pins by feel when working on the caliper. Keep lubed with high temp grease. BAT has some replacement caliper parts.
