Anyone know how to get beyond the Power Window wiring on a driver's side door panel? I got it almost off, but without splicing the wires, I see no easy way to remove it completely.

The real problem is: the window came off the track, (i think.. it will not go up anymore ) and I wanted to see about getting it back on again.

Thoughts, advice, help?? Much appreciated!!!

Disconnect all the plugs to the switches and motors and it'll pull right out. It's really easy then you can work on your window glass etc.

get the Hayes manual from auto zone for abour $11.00.. i had the cable in the passenger window that was messed up... without the book it would have been impossible for me to remove it... did not look like any other car(mostly fords) that i have owned and worked on for the past 40 yrs.....
you probably have a bad window regulator in the window, both manual and power windows have the cable thing on the window regulators just about impossible to repair the cable part, needed to buy the whole window regulator, came with motor, cost about $160. retail, i got it for about $120???
its been a few years now.. that was our problem the window would not go up all the way.....

thanks all.. i was really hoping it was the track and not the regulator the strange thing is, when i hit the down button, the window goes down fine, when i hit the up it does nothing-- i don't even hear the motor grinding, so perhaps it is the regulator

Okay, so that went well, thanks guys! The window seems to be on its track, meaning it must be the regulator. Would you guys suggest trying to get one at a junkyard/online used, or spend the big bucks going new?? I'm planning on owning the car for at least another year. Thanks, Cheers

kclark21,

You should get at least a relay "click" when you press the driver's switch.
If not, it could be the driver's switch, or the relay for the power window regulator motor.
There is probably nothing wrong with the regulator motor.

I'd have to agree with RoadRunner - another option to check is to idle the car at night with the headlights on - press down on the window button - your headlights should dim just a tad (more electrical load). Press up on the switch and the two outcomes are (assuming that your window magically going up isn't a third)
1) headlights don't dim = bad switch
2) headlights do dim = regulator

If it's the regulator - hit up Joe or Terry at Sentry South in Boston (1.800.282.2290). Tell 'em you're a CEG'er and they'll ship it to you at wholesale. Got mine for $126 to my door (when my regulator bit it). Good luck!

hey, thanks. yeah, well, strange thing is.. i got the window up (driver's side, driver's window) but it took like ten tries: holding the bottom of the window through the hole where the speaker sits, I pushed up while holding down the UP button--sometimes the window went up, as in the back part went up and I had to push the front of the window (the front as is towards the front of the car) up as well so it would go up evenly. But the power only lasted a second or two, and I kept shutting off the car and turning it back to accessory and after like 10 minutes finally got the window all the way up

but I will try and test at night if it is the regulator or the switch, thanks, btw, I never thought of doing that

i'll let you know what happens next.
