Started my car up today (just had my DMD installed 2 weeks ago) and climbed under the car and I hear the sad click click sound. After the car warmed up (about 2 minuets) it went to a faint click noise. Does anyone think that it could be anything else? (it's only at the bottom end) It really has always had that clicking noise scense day one (when I bought it w/ 27000 miles). Not sure how long the motor will last. The noise goes away after you rev it to 1000 rpm. My car has 47000 on it now. Also does anyone know if the Clevite 77 berings could be installed before the bering actually spins (if infact it is a rod bering) I will try to do that if it saves my motor. HELP ME!

Here is what I think. YOu have been saying that the noise has been there ver since you bought it. It sound like a Timing chain/belt, not sure what SVTs have, in genereal, car with higher milage get it, over a period of time the chein streches and there is more playtime, therefore it might be hitting something. IT goes oway when you rev up the motor. JMO but don't just rely on me. Take it to a mechanic. Rodnock would not go away after the car warms up, and I think it would make noise in the upper portion of the engine.

I had a 94 altima and it had the same thing.

If you have rod bearings making noise then you will have metal shavings in your oil. Everytime I have had rod bearings go out on one of these cars it happens quick. Next time you change your oil filter the oil coming out of the engine and look for metal shavings. My guess is that your rod bearings are fine or the car would not run very long and you would lose oil pressure also. I have blown 3 motors because of rod bearings.

I guess you missed the Drivers' Ed class where they told you to pretend there was an egg between your foot and the gas pedal...

The funny thing is is that the noise (rattling now is worse) is more at the tranny side of the engine. Ford just installed a new tranny/ clutch/ flywheel assimbly in my vehicle about 1 month ago, the re-machined the flywheel and stuff, and I have a SPEC stage 2 clutch. Anything related to that? The motor runs STRONG. I bet I could vastly improve on my 15.4 1/4 mile to a high 14. I'm quite worried, and if it is in fact is a rod bering that I could change out the engine in time for head damage (possible piston slap) My grandpa said throw-out-bering in the clutch could be mis-allined
