On my way to work and on the way home my right front brake was grinding and making all sorts of funny noises. When I got home I looked at the wheel and it was covered in brake dust. (None of my other wheels have ever had a problem with brake dust) Do I just need to throw new pads on it or what's the deal with this? Thanks for the advice in advance so I can switch them up over the weekend.

Grinding while braking or all times. If while braking more than likely you are metal on metal and will need new pads and rotors. If at all times, wheel bearings.

I wouldn't!

I takes me 30 minutes to replace a set of front pads, so an hour if you haven't done them before. See if a local would be willing to help. If you are mechanically capable you really shouldn't have any problem. Get a Ford repair CD and only do one side at a time, as a reference. The outter springs are crucial!!!!

Sure sounds like a seized caliper to me having worn out the pad and now running backing plate against the rotor. Don't just replace the pads, have the caliper replaced too.

99% of the time grinding is related to pads that are warn down to the baking plates. Siezed calipers are rather far and few between. You don't hear about if very often here. More than likely it's just time for brakes. And regaurdless of which he will need a new rotor!

Same friggin thing happened to me on Sunday afternoon! Right front brake started grinding when I brake! WTF!

How much do rotors go for?

Wondering if the BAT brake kit is a good deal? $225 for mintex pads and European spec rotors (either AP Lockheed or EBC) at all four corners.

Anyone used this kit before?

Hmm, I feel a search coming on!

Agreed that it's the exception, but his description of having that one wheel covered in brake dust and never having had a dusting problem before indicates to me that something's causing the pad to wear fast and furiously, e.g., stuck caliper.
