I have Alex Pepper's OBDII software and was playing around with it last weekend. I came upon these tests while checking out the features and decided to give them a run. The KOEO test was first, the fans came on and it did its business, but I was supprised to what was returned.. An error code...

P1519 which is IMRC stuck Closed

Now, I know my IMRC's work most (75%) of the time while driving, so I am puzzled by this error code. I also received 2 more codes,

P1650 which is Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch out of Self-Test Range

P1703 Brake ON/OFF (BOO) switch out of self test range

Those dont really concern me much as I know my steering works and my brakes work also. but the IMRC problem has me puzzled as they do not work 25% of the time..

What do you all think?

If your PCM doesn't give you error codes, then you need to write to Alex,
and tell him that the software may need to be "TWEAKED" a little on the KOEO tests.

IMRC either works or it doesn't.
When you get to that 3500 RPM range,
and you feel the engine's 'second wind',
they are working just fine...

To get a drive time fault you need a condition to persist through 2 drive cycles. An intermittent problem may show up once in a while, but never trip a light.

For the BOO - you need to depress the brake pedal at some point during the test to pass this one.

For the IMRC - I put up a post a bit ago where you could enter the strings in the search tab that will open your IMRC with the engine off. I ran it, let it sit for like 4-5 minutes and then pried on it a bit with a screwriver to convince myself it would open and stay open under full rpm load.

No clue about the PSP pressure thing...

I know my IMRC works most of the time.. but I also know for a fact that it doesnt other times. Its hard to prove to anybody and even harder to make it happen when you need it too. I think im going to mention it to my service advisor and see what he says.. If they will take a look at it, so be it.. if they dont fix it.. im up $hits creak without a paddle.. I think im just going to buy a new engine harness and see if that helps since ive had electrical problems for some time now.

Thanks for the help with the brake test, probably something along the same route for the power steering sensor also. but ill mention both to my advisor..

Hey, could you post those strings again for opening the imrc?

Thanks,

With the shop-quality scan tools I've seen, one is instructed to depress the brake pedal and rotate the steering wheel at a certain point in the test. These actions jostle the BOO switch and spike the power steering fluid pressure. FWIW...
