no, use 5w-30 or 5w-20. synthetic or conventional, your choice.

I would not use the 5W20 unless it is required to maintain your warranty. Runs like water. Rumor is that auto manufacturers are more concerned with emissions and mileage requirements then protection in going to the lower weight.

Official Answer: The Ford TSB 02-1-9 recommends 5W-20 for all Contours and Mystiques.

Unofficial Answer: What the post above mine said. I tried the 5W-20 once and didn't get any noticeable mileage improvement, so it didn't justify the extra price.

How about 5W-30 Mobil Tri-Synthetic, or is 10W-30 better??

I've always used 10-W-30 conventional oil since I had my car new still running no problem right now I have 127000 miles on it.

Don't go above 5w-30. Based on all the info I have heard, the Duratec is a 'tight' engine, and the higher viscosity just adds more load and friction on the internals at startup.

My wife and I have had 2 Contours, 95 SE and 98 SE. These both recommended 5-30. we recently replaced the 95 with a Cougar; same V6. It recommends 5-20.

I've used Mobil 1 5-30 in all of them. They don't use any oil whatever.

Injected cars start so quickly, you want oil moving immediately, especially in cold weather.
I'd go to 10-30 where the temperature doesn't get below freezing.

Josh, that's what I use. Mobil 1 Tri-Synth. You're good.
