I bet its normal air intake noise (induction howl). My 3L does it, and so does my brother's stock Cougar Duratec (although not nearly as loudly, heh). Especially if you have an open filter - that will make it more noticeable.

Mine does the same thing when I just rev the engine from idle. It goes away after I pull out. If you open your hood while its making the noise you will feel your air filter resonating. I guess its just the noise of a lot of air going through the filter. I hope someone else has some comments on it.

how loud is the hum? can you feel vibration in the car when it does it? sounds like it could be moosing. could be a bad idle air bypass valve. i had mine replaced by ford for the exact same problem.

It is pretty loud. It has been raining here latly so have not had a chance to look. I will check the valve I am still under warranty so they should replace it. Thanks for the input.

I get a high pitched hum like you describe in both my cars. Sounds the same so I have to figure that it is the tranny gears. Probaly wrong but its a thought.
