A clutch doesnt tend to go out like that. Useually what will happen is that you won;t be able to shif because the clutch is worn.
Now if the shifter won;t come out of gear (weather started or with the car of) you usually have a syncro problem.
If you can move the shifter in any gear weather the clutch is engagued or not (car on) then you usually have a diff problem.
To test if your clutch is bad, put the car into nutral if you can (before starting) start car, then try to shift into gear...if its only the clutch then you will grind as you try to shift.but if it goes into gear, then it could be one of the combo i mention above....Remember A clutch is a ware item. it usually won;t just "stop working" you will notice the diffrence when a clutch begins to go bad as a graduall effect. Usually....there are though freak cases of them going bad.

So I get the dreaded phone call from the dealer. My handler tells me that a preliminary estimate if it's the clutch is $1595. That's the whole clutch assembly. They haven't really torn it apart yet. But the guy did say that the mechanic that is taking care of my car mentioned it was the cleanest SVT he's ever seen That won't pay my bill but maybe it'll be a psycological thing and he wear white gloves when he works on it. So...she's gone for at least two days. Timing is perfect, I take my wife and motherinlaw to airport tomorrow. They'll be out of town almost a week and I'll drive her SE to and fro. I'll betcha' she'll tell me not to tear it up too!

I had that happen on my 98 SVT I used to have. The clutch disk sheared on a particularly snappy 1-2 upshift. I heard a nice Boom and then nothing, car just revved. It was under warranty at the time and the dealer just covered it with a new disc.
I was surprised it was just a clutch, but they wanted around $700 plus parts if the disk was worn out they said. $1600 is a rip-off. Find another dealer.

Too late, it's on the rack right now being disassembled. They are supposed to call me when it's apert to give me the latest news.
I was going to go by at lunch to check it out. The price is an early estimate, worst case scenario. I asked if I could provide a Grizzly clutch if they put it in. Thye said no prob.
I will check on price breakdown.

I would recommend against a Grizzly. I have an ATX so I can't vouch firsthand, but I know people who've had major problems with them. PM ov3n and ask him about his. His car is currently on jackstands getting a centerforce (I think that's what it is) clutch put in.

you got to remember too...the Grizzly is intended as an OE replacement only.....its not designed to handle the power outputs of bolt-ons and f/i.......Thats was the first thing i found out when i was looking for a new clustch...so i went with a custom tripple plate clutch from SACHS. (My work buys form them) and now i have no problmes!!!
