I'm new to the world of Autocross, and I'm planning to take my Contour GL out! I've seen in my region the recent winners of the H-stock class have been Foci! I've heard that the focus and zx2 are better performers than the zetec contour cause of weight and other factors... but does anyone have first hand experience with this? Are those other zetecs that much better performers on an autocross? Does a contour zetec stand a chance? Thanks all

have any mods? the zetec 'tour is a good handler stock, better than many cars, but a few small moddifications make it much better. can i suggest larger wheels, good tires, springs and struts, and larger rear sway bar. if u want to be in stock class, well then the foci and other cars will probably get u, but if u'r a good driver, u do have a chance.
98.5 SVT
91 Escort GT (almost sold)
96 ATX Zetec (i brake to watch you swerve)
FS: SVT rear sway bar

Rear sway bars aren't allowed in stock class, I don't think? I'm upgrading to Contour Sport 15 inch rims (I had dinky 14 inch rims,) with Yokohama AVS ES1000's (215/60/15 most likely, maybe 205/55/15s) - those were the mods I was planning on starting out with. What sorts of springs/suspension upgrades are allowed to remain stock, anyone know?

i guess if u have to remain stock for u'r model, u can't do anything to the suspension. i have a svt rear sway bar, and i'm installing svt struts and roush springs friday. u really mite do better if u did a few mods including a few to the engine. get the zetec to get up a little faster and the car to stick better.

I guess the only thing I can do in stock class is do what I'm doing... tires and an air filter? Do you race your GL in Autox? If so, how do you do?

You'd be better off racing a SE in Auto-X. The GL had a mushy suspension.

True! unfortunately I don't have an SE!
The Gl was actually a car I picked up from a family member who didnt want it - I drive an SVT daily... been thinking about just sucking it up and taking the SVT out, but I'd have to take out my subs and audio equipment... not sure if I'm willing to mess with the daily driver. Time will tell, though.

i could've sworn we had a auto cross forum, i was just about to say u should ask them
personally i say, no you don't have a chance...why do I say that? probably because your car is slower than Foci and other tours and even if u have good suspension...thats not gonna make up for the power loss
