Am I ever pissed. I was having some work done on my suspension and when I picked my car I opened the trunk to see my speaker box lying on its face in the back of the trunk. All of the wiring had been yanked out of the amps mounted on the back of the box.
Apparently one of the techs unlatched the harness that held the box in place and tried to *pull* the box and amps out. This is unbelievable to me as he must have seen that he was tearing all of the wiring!! The terminals were all still screwed down with severed ends hanging out.
Anyway I hooked everything back up and I have the loudest engine whine coming throught the speakers that I have every heard. It is equally present when the stereo is off (the amps stay on, but that is another issue).
I tryed to isolate the problem by hooking up one speaker at a time, then one RCA signal wire at a time and the noise is equally present in all configurations.
The only thing that I can think of, beside the possibility that the amp is damaged, is that the integrity of the ground has been compromised. I checked and it looks very solid. As it truns out the ground wire was one of the few that was not ripped out.
Well, back to work now. I apoligize for the long rant, but I needed to let off some steam. I have a feeling I will be trouble shooting this problem for some time.
By the way, the mechanic said he was sorry and that what he did could not have caused the engine whine - he suggested that it may have been like that already and that I just hadn't noticed it. I love it when they take responsibility for their mistakes!
