Yeah it is possible...

That is the line pressure tap location from the manual.

In your manual, go to Group 3 (powertrain) / Section 307-1 / DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING / Special Testing Procedures / Line Pressure Test.

There you will find the image above and a pressure table. There is also a Air Pressure Test and Testing Procedures.

I agree with your "open heart surgery" thing. Like I said, I don't think he has a hydralic problem. But it would be a good idea to do, just to get a better picture of what is going on. You would have to troubleshoot the code first and then worry about any line pressures later.

Thanks, I now see the line pressure port in atx blow-up in Ford service manual(hardcopy). I'll try again to find narrative and check cd. I thought perhaps valve body cover had to be removed, therefore the open heart reference. Your blood pressure test analogy right on.

OK momma it seems a pressure test is possible and should not be that expensive. So far it seems the tranny shop is suggesting reasonable course of action.

I have seen a decrease in the gas mileage! I have not found that I have to work harder to get up hills. The car has plenty of power. I have had a surging from time to time when I would be taking off it stared surging just about every time I take off then the tranny problems stared.

Would you go ahead and do the pressure test or try something else first???

If I was sitting in front of the car in a shop... I would troubleshoot the code, P0743, and follow all twists and turns related to that. Then, only after I felt comfortable that I had exhausted all avenues related to the CEL, that I would start looking into the hydralic system through the use of pressure tests. The way I would approach the troubleshooting process, overall, would be to resolve all electrical problems, then hydraulic, then mechanical.

I guess if I had to "throw punches" at the way the mechanic was troubleshooting Momma's car, would be with the issue with the VSS and the fact that he shudged his shoulders in confusion and wanted to jump right in the hyraulic system. Why do I question this? You cann't fix an electrical problem through hydraulics.

Just my two cents and trying not to be so wordy.

Talk to the tranny man yesterday. He is going to find the electrical problem then if the thing is still acting up he will do the pressure test. Will be taking the car to him Monday. I'll let all you know what He finds.

Well took my car to the tranny shop. Do you want to guess what he tells me......
Your tranny is no good I'm surprised that it even made it here. So I ask him .... you
Checked the sensors and they was fine? What do you think he said........ No it
did not pass the pressure test. I said when we talked last week before I brought it in that You was to check the sensors and replace if need to then do the pressure test.
( at this point in the conversation I knew that he was not going to be doing anything else to my car ) So I ask him what it was going to cost to rebuild it. He tells me that he would not rebuild it that there was just to much to it that it would be $2,800.00 for New tranny.
HELLO " to much to it" this is what he does or shall I say suppose to do for a living. So I will be taking the car to someone else.
NOW TO TOP IT ALL OFF WHEN I GO GET THE CAR THE HUBCAPS HAD BEEN STOLEN!!!!!! GOOD THING I HAD REMOVED THE STEREO OUT OF IT!

Just to let you all know this same shop rebuilt a tranny for me about 10 years ago and did an excellent job and that car is still going and has had No tranny problems.

I might just try and replace the sensors and see what happens. Think I'll start with the VSS after all he said that he was not getting a good reading on it. I don't think it would be that hard to do myself.

Wise move, sounds like shop under different ownership now. DIY on VSS simple task but akward access.
