yesterday when I started my car to go home it sounded wierd, but I thought it was just the regular valve train noise at cold startup. Then when I started to drive it was hesitating and running rough, sounding exactly like it was runnin on 5 cylinders. So when I got home I checked the plugs and wires and all seemed okay. The only wierd thing was the plug in cylinder #1 looked quite a bit blacker than the rest, and when I pulled that wire it didn't run much different. And when I pulled any of the other ones it ran much worse. So I figure cylinder #1 isn't firing properly. But yet the spark plug wasn't wet or anything and I pulled only a min or so after it was running for close to 15 min. Oh and when I shon a flashlight down the spark plug whole the top of the cylinder looked pretty black also. Does anybody have any idea as to what might be wrong?

I brought my car to the wolves this morning (dealer) they've been good to me in the past so hopefully they don't try to screw me over. One other wierd thing is that there seems to be something that sounds like regular valve noise, but quite a bit louder on the left rear of the engine. Anyhow, any opinions as to what it might be would be appreciated, cause i don't want to get ripped off by the dealer.

I'm not sure what it could be but possibly a bad spark plug or bad spark plug wire.

You can check if the #1 plug is firing or not by jumping a spark to chassis ground from the coil wire. If you have a spark, then the noise you're hearing may be related to more serious problems with #1 You can use a big screwdriver as sort of mechanics stethescope (sp) if you listen to the end of the handle and put the blade on different spots around the engine. (Yeah, it looks stupid, but it works...)
