Is it just me or are the gas and break peddles much easier and more responsive to move on a 03 focus then they are on 95 mystiques (both have a 2.0L zetec)? When i go to accelerate past somebody on the freeway i fell like i have to smash the peddle into the floor to get it to move. Also I have never been able to spin my tires at all while stopped with it in drive. Is that normal too?

Never driven a Focus, but I would guess they weigh less than a contour, which could make a nice difference in acceleration.

Regarding the "spinning" wheels part, do u have a ATX ?? If not, then it is a problem of interface control between the highly techonolical equipment and the signals being send. That should be easy to fix: UPGRADE THE DRIVER !!

And don't keep doing that, you could screw up ur engine mounts !!

[Talking about burning tires, I love to do that on my Protege, I get some rubber out of it even on 3rd gear.. he he he the fact that I have 13" wheel on it help somehow]

I would agree that because the focus is a bit lighter it would get up an move faster.

as for burning the tires, only time was on a tar and graveled, worn road and old tires. only got a foot or two

I did notice that between pre 98 and post 98 cars, or maybe it is just cars with TC to cars without the brake and gas pedals are even in the post 98 cars. in the pre 98 cars the gas pedal is a bit lower then the brake pedal

Ive noticed this as well with 2000 Focus Se wagon. I think it has more to do with the spring rate on the TB than weight. The pedal is easier in the Focus than my 95 tour. the focus does accelerate faster and that may be becuase of weight (although my wagon is alot bigger than my tour you figure it out) if you look under the hood of both at the same time you can litreaaly pick out at least 10 weight reductions off the motor that alos made it cheaper to make. Like my 95 tour has aluminum TB and my focus has a plastic. All that B.S. intake crap on the Tour is not there on the Focus plus a lot of other things.I dont know what the HO rating if the 95 tour/mystique is but the Focus is 130 at the crank which i belive is a little more than the tour. as far as spinning tires i cant do that in my focus anymore. all it has is a Short ram but i upgraded the tires to Yokohoma Advin V4 205/55/15 which are wider than stock they grip and dont spin at all but before i could barley take off with out wheel spin and yes it and ATX. The brakes are lot better too.

i think new cars are just simply better than old cars

the response when u hit the brakes on my moms Civic is way better than on my Contour...can't really compare gas though because her ATX is slow as [censored].

stock pre98 'tours are 125hp, but just a little intake work gets that up to the 98+ 130hp.

pre 98 is 125
post 98 is 130

The VCT on the exhaust of the post 98 model engines adds the 5 hp IIRC

according to other people, the VCT just helps emissions, and it's intake changes (and maybe some other crap) that makes that extra 5 ponies.
