Last year I had my water pump replaced in a re-call. In the last week my temperature gauge has been going into the red. I replaced the thermostat and that is not helping? I am finding that if I turn my heat or air on the fan kicks in and the temperature goes down a bit but the needle never goes below the "L" in normal? Does this sound like I could have a rad problem? I have a 98 Contour with 130,000 Km.
Please help!

I have a question for you "What Re-Call"?????
Also, as for your problem, what about your thermostat??? Maybe it is not working properly or you got a bad WP.

I had a re-call on my water pump last year or the year before. I just replaced the thermastat and it is working.
If the fan does not kick in when the temperature goes up could this cause my problem?

Perhaps you can confirm you have the Zetec engine and advise what your normal temp gauge reading was. Also rad fan comes on with a/c, def or def/floor but not with heat.
Sounds like perhaps lo-speed fan not working, perhaps fan motor resistor or relay, but those are just a guess at this point, pending further info.

Which motor do you have. I have never heard of a recall for the water pump. I know this is a common problem on the 2.5. If you don't have that one then that may explain why I have never heard that.

I have 98 CSVT. I had a problem with temp gauge going into the HOT zone when accelerating, and 'cooling' down to near normal when slowing down or stopping. Fortunately, was right near the dealer and they quickly saw that actual temp of engine was normal. There was a loose grounding wire...
