ok guys here is the story: I went out of town last week and let my girlfriend drive my SVT the 4 days I was gone. Anyways, the day before I left my good ol' escort wouldn't start, thought it was the battery, asked my girlfriend to go to wal-mart and pick one up while I was out of town and I'd put it in when I get back. Ok, she goes and gets that battery the first day I was gone, and leaves it in the backseat behind the drivers side sitting there for four days. When I got back in town, she told me it was in the backseat, didn't think anything about it then, but when I picked the battery up all of the leather under the battery came up with it Most of the day it would sit out in the sun and get really hot. Battery+sun+on leather=BAD!!! Anyways, I guess my question is how much should I expect to pay to repair this. And...one of my friends said if it was battery acid that was leaking, it will eat away at the seat. So even if I replace the leather, it will still "eat" at the foam underneath. Is this true??? I wasn't sure Thanks guys, any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -neal

Ouch! I have grey leather in my LS, send a pic of girlfriend, perhaps we can work a trade. You might still be able to get a replacement cover from Ford but one off a wreck is more likely. Try web page

Check the classifieds section, there are always guys selling there cars off for parts money that have had them destroyed in accidents etc... and they seem reasonable in price. If there are none posted put up a post that you are looking for one and I'm sure you will find one. Plus they are easy to replace once you find a rear seat. Don't bother repairing it.
Good Luck!!

thanks for the help guys. dont know about the duct tape though...wouldn't match too good with the midnight blue leather I went and got an estimate of $85 to repair the seat. Seemed good to me, but if I can find a seat for sale I'd probably pick that up. Thanks -neal

You got a pic of that? I'd be interested to see how bad the damage is.

That sux man. I will try to look around my area and see if I can find a seat. What shop did you call, local or what. I know stegals in jackson does a super job but they are pricey. Keep me posted and I will check tomorrow and see if there is anything in my area. Did you and your lady break up over this incident or is she on strict non-svt detail?

just a strick non-svt deal larry. I thought I told you about this but I guess I didn't. yeh, I took it to a local shop that one of my friends recommended and they seemed like they'd to a good job. The guy sounded like he knew what he was doing. I might just go ahead and buy a new seat if I can get ahold of one. But if you find anything out larry please let me know. The girl is still with me, just no driving the SVT without me in it. I'll snap a pic tomorrow and let you guys see it...its pretty nasty. -neal

might want to pour some baking soda solution on the cushion "just in case". I don't know how battery acid reacts with cushion foam, but neutralizing the acid does no harm...
