I have a Rockford Fosgate RFX9200 head unit, and I am looking to take the next step in my audio set up. My question is would you reccomend new 6x8's, or a sub with an amp?
I would like my sound to have a little more bass. I don't want to be setting of car alarms when I drive by, I just want a little extra "punch."
I would also like to stay under $300. Any thoughts?

8" sub in the rear deck, perfect amount of bass. But if you have stock speakers, those should be replaced also, if not first. Ford OEM
2000 SVT Black/Tan #1633/2150 (a few mods)
Alpine: CDA-9835, MRV-F540, MRD-M550
PG: TANTRUM-X 6.5 COMP all around.

The OEM Ford 6x8 speakers aren't the absolute worst on the planet. They're not great, but with a sub you can tune it to sound ok until you can afford to replace the 6x8s.
I'd say go for the sub. If you're not too far away from me I can stop by and show you my setup so you can listen to my Lambda PB12. I also have Pioneer 6x8s, so you can compare and see which route you'd like to take.
EDIT: P.S. You should come to one of our "meets" and show off your ride. The only SVT that participates is Thinkmoto in Waukesha and his isn't legal to run on the road yet (salvage title).

I'd go with a single 12" sub and a 4ch amp, which is definately doable for $300. Run the fronts to your stockers (which actually sound decent when run with some good power and a high pass crossover set around 150Hz) and run the sub off the rears.
It's the best of both worlds. You'll be surprised at the difference a modest amp will make with the stock speakers.

Why do you say meets in quotes? When is the next one?

I put it in quotes for two reasons, basically. One, the number of Cougars is usually equal to or outnumbers the Contours at our CEG meets. We actually had a meet back in November where every car looked different (1 Cougar, 1 98+ 'tour, 1 pre-98 'tour, and 1 Focus SVT). So they're not really CEG meets, they're more like Ford enthusiast meets.
Secondly, attendance sucks. If it weren't for Thinkmoto and his SVT, and the Cougar guys, I'd be the only one. I started the meets last fall, and I'm having a hell of a time getting consistant attendance. This last "meet" was me and Thinkmoto this past Saturday, that's it.
As far as the next meet, its hard to say. Thinkmoto and I spend a lot of time trying to pick a day that everyone agrees with. Hang out in the W. Great Lakes forum and stay involved!

I agree too the OEM Speaker pretty good if you give some good power and get 4 channel amp..2channel for all the speaker and 2channel bridge to power the sub

So what kind of power can the fronts handle? Any reccomendations on a sub, enclosure, and amp? And where to put the sub? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for the help!!

i have no idea how much power the stock speakers can handle, i used to have an overrated 100x2 going to them, but i never really turned it up too loud.... you said your budget was $300? are you comfortable making your own sub box to save some money?
