That is a lot of weight to get rid of. If you want looks, go w/ 18s. If you want performance, go w/ the lightest 16" you can find.

Exactly. The further removed from the engine you go, the less mass matters. And as far as wheels go, air weighs less than metal, especially the further out from the center of the wheel that you go (rotational mass).

A cool spreadsheet is here: http://www.the-welters.com/racing/rotational.xls

this is all cool stuff, but the dude asked if he would "feel" any difference. well? any actual driving experience feedback for the guy? i am running stock rims and wouldn't mind knowing myself.

Yeah, has anyone actually NOTICED a difference with lighter wheels? I think the rage 5.0's are about 21 lbs.

Well I don't think weight matters too much. I just put the 14" steelies instead of the 16" E1s and the acceleration is quicker (feel)... and I know the steelies weigh more than the E1s.

acceleration would be better with the14s, there probably a smaller tire, but wieght does matter, but its also true, the further away the wight from the motor, less difference it makes, but every little bit helps!!!

Like I said, a simple 6lbs in wheel wt is approx. 240 lbs of dead wt. So let me ask you this. I'm sure you all have had people in the car (maybe some larger than others) when you have been under hard acceleration. I'm sure you noticed a large drop off in perfomance / acceleration. So ya, there will be a noticeable increase. Do I reccomend ultra light weight wheels, no only because of pot holes / curbs/ ect. But to each his own right? It's all what you want.

well again, you are right. you put a 240 pounder in my car and i will feel the difference. the car will be slower and have a nasty tilt to it now, give me 6 lbs less wheel weight and can i *feel* the difference? i'm interested in actual real world feel not numbers. when you got your lighter rims did your car feel faster, tighter.... for intance, my winter tire setup (195 - 70 - 15 on 15" steelies) is about 5 lbs more per tire than my stock 16's and i can't tell the different except that my excelleration *feels* better with my winter setup (probably because they have 20 cm thinner footprint).

You will feel the difference. Now mind you it's not an earth shattering, jaw dropping difference, but your acceleration will be a bit quicker, breaking will improve a decent amount and conoring will improve as well. Remember you'll be about 250 lbs lighter as well. Now you car feels like it accelerates quicker w/ the skinny 15 steelies because in part they are skinnier, but mainly because the circumference of the tire is smaller. Remember, your wheels/tires are part of the drive line as well. They are like gears. A bigger wheel/tire setup will decrease acceleration, but increase top speed per RPM. A smaller wheel and tire set up will increase acceleration but decrease top speed per RPM. It might seem confusing, but if you think about it, it will all make sense.
