I've got a 95 Mystique that I'm dropping a 2001 3L into. I'm trying to use the whole new motor, but I'm having some difficulties getting the old return-style rail with the fat injectors to fit.
My end goal is to fit the 3L LIM with 19# injectors.
I figure I'll need to splice the new injector plugs into the old harness, then take the new rail and run feed and return fuel lines to match up with the quick-connect ends of the old rail, plus the pressure regulator.
Wires are easy, especially if Brad chimes in with the correct polarity but I just don't know what to do with the rail. Specifically, the practical aspects of running fuel-compatible hose and making connections that are guaranteed not to leak.
I'm also working on machining aluminum adaptor plates to fit the 2.5 LIM to the 3L heads, but I'd rather not go that route.
Any help is appreciated.

The injectors share a common side, then are individual on the other side of each individual injector circuit. A simple volt/ohm meter or test light can be used (provided the ECU has no power, test light + ECU power = danger) to determine which leads are which. As long as you have the engine harness to the 3L, you shouldn't have any problem figuring it out quickly, unless your electronics skills are lacking, in which case you wouldn't be splicing your own harness. Good luck.

Thanks Brad, it doesn't sound too hard.
Frying the computer is not a concern, since both wiring harnesses are on the opposite side of the garage.
Now, to find safe and reliable fuel line connections...

Have you tried a 98 SVT fuel rail, I think it will fit the 3L and is the return style. I have not gotten to that step on my project ( 2001L in a 95SE ) Are 98 3L returnless motors? You could use one of those fuel rails too. They should mate up to the car without a major hassle.

the 2.5L fuel rails will not bolt up to the newer 3.0L lower intake manifolds

So much for that, then.
What did you use to connect your hacked-up rail parts to your fuel hose?

3.0 fuel rail, cut just before it's funky bend. Added 3/8" fuel injector hose with fuel injector clamps rated for 100psi. from there it goes into a 2.5L fuel rail which connects into the fuel pressure sensor unit.

The wiring isn't hard to do. Just make sure you find the right ground wire. I wired all of them reversed, and had to do them again. Good thing I realize they were reversed before I hook everything up.
