Fan controlled by PCM (Powertrain Control Module) which receives info from coolant temp sensor on engine. The 4cyl runs hotter than v6, so a normal of 'A' on gauge with lo-speed of fan coming on at 'L' would be considered typical operation. If temp climbs higher, or with a/c on, then hi-speed of fan comes on.
Believe your car has one fan.
p.s. I thought this info was provided in response to your previous posts, which I noted were responded to by other members.

No, reset only applicable for CEL (Check Engine Light) on situations. The temp that PCM turns on fan is preset.
The problem actually seems to stem from the fact that Ford used the same gauge calibration for 4 & 6 cyl engines, even tho' the 4 has a higher thermostat and therefore runs hotter. The v6 engine usually in the O/R range and the I4 in the A/L range.

i had the same prob, still do. The fan sometimes cuts on after the edge of the L. I took it to a shop and they hooked it up ran it and said the fan cuts on right at the spec temp.

I know we've talked about this a lot, but I still think there's something defective about a lot of these fans/sensors/controllers that makes the fan kick on at the A or L. I've got two 95 Zetecs. Both of them run at the R-M in winter, which tells me the thermostat and temperature gauge are the same on both of them. Both of them also run at R-M in warm weather, if I'm driving at highway speeds, when adequate cooling is coming from the air associated with the vehicle movement. In hot weather or slow driving, the fan on the Contour kicks on at the middle of the M, which holds the temperature at that point. However, the fan on the Mystique kicks on at the top of the L, and kicks back off at the top of the A. This tells me that there is something defective about my Mystique system, since it behaves entirely different from the identical Contour system. I've burned a lot of bridges at the Ford dealer, trying to get an explanation of why the two identical systems behave totally differently, unless one is defective.
