Your best bet is to be able to pull both wheels and use the one as a reference! Try a manual or the ford CD for reference! I tried awhile back to find information in this forum but there was little on rear brake shoes!

First, they are called 'shoes' not 'pads'. I don't know why, but they are !

Second, it may be easier for you to ask us what you are having trouble with; rather than the whole procedure. From your post, it sounds like you're already knee deep in it.

Third, 99_2.5_V6 gave you probably the best advice, use one side as reference while doing the otherside. Drum brakes are a PITA and, in my experience, the Chiltons and other cheap manuals at the parts store do a poor job of describing and depicting the process. OR, use a polaroid camera and take pictures from several angles before you begin.

Fourth, make sure your parts supplier gave you the correct size shoes. Your 95 has 8 inch (203x38mm) rear drums but cars after 96 have either 8 or 9 inch (228x45mm). When I attempted to do mine, the parts store computer said there was only one size drums for this car. This was 2000, 4 years after they had been making 9 inch drums. I suppose it is quite possible they gave you the wrong shoes. Hold your new shoes up to the old ones still on your car, the difference is very noticeable.

Fifth (and last) you may want to try posting in Brakes under the Modifications section. I know, this is not really a modification, but you may get better response there. Although, what is a modification really? IMO, the section should be called Modifications and Maintenance; or a seperate section needs to be created for Maintenance. I'll see waht Lance thinks.

Anyway, there are my suggestions. Good luck!

If you don't have a manual to follow, there are alot of DIY articles on the web. The first time you do this it might be a little tricky, but the procedure for most drum brakes are pretty much the same. Although the entire job can be done with common tools, life will be MUCH easier if you get a brake shoe retaining spring tool, brake spring pliers and a brake spoon (adjustment tool).
