I am hearing this strange humming, almost a rubbing noise as I drive.. it isn't the engine making the noise and changes tones with velocity. Started when someone backed into my quarter panel, I don't think the tire is rubbing. Could it be the half-shaft? or CV boot?

did the wheel get hit too or just the 1/4 pannel? it might be a wheel bearing too, i would check for wheel play by jacking up the car and by hand shaking the wheel up/down and side/side. i think if you have side/side wheel movements the wheel bearing is going and if you have up/down movements its CV boot.

I don't know if the wheel was hit or not.. there is no evidence of that. But I am definitely going to check those things.... thanks...

Are there vibrations or any other symptoms while driving? Does the humming get louder as speed increases, or do you hear the humming only at a certain rpm or speed?
My guess would be a bad bearing or unbalanced wheel, those are the only 2 times I had a humming sound coming from a wheel while Iā??m driving. With the unbalanced wheel my whole car was shaking but only around 55mph. With the bad bearing the humming was there the whole time and it got slightly louder as speed increased.
Never had any experience with a bent driveshaft on a Contour, but on my parents van it caused the whole van to shake and the humming was unbearable.

It seems to get louder with a decrease in speed... I am thinking it is the bearing..
