OP DocSVT_dup1 CEG\'er D Joined: Apr 2003 Posts: 113 Utah	ive got a knocing sound, coming fron the pass side of the engine, but it sounds like plastic, but it doesnt sound like a connecting rod or bearing, or any thing like that(ive had the expierence in other cars, with v8s, but never in any thing like this). im lost, and dont want to take everything apart just to find out i was wrong, so i was wondering if any one has ever herd of a timing belt tensioner going out, and what does that sound like 98 SVT, silver frost, with blue graphics.

wip_dup1 New CEG\'er W Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 24 ohio	If you think it's coming from the serpentine belt area simply remove the belt and start the engine. If the noise goes away examine the accesories and idlers. I assume from your name you have a V6. If you have the I4 it may very well be timing belt slap. If so it usually goes away after a few minutes.

It didn't sound good, but it ended up being the idler pulley, I believe. It was definitely something on the accessory belt at any rate. -Lance Lance Kinley CEG Webmaster 95 SE, "Cassandra" 10 years!
