if i disconnect the sunroof motor, like take it out completely, would i be able to move my glass by hand? i'masking b/c i don't know if my motor needsreplacing or if it's just off track. i push the button and it goes back about an inch before i get the clacking sound, thanks

your gears prob fell to pieces, as many are made of plastic. Happened to me, I had to remove position sensors/cam and rebuild it for now w/o them...still works, just have to stop pressing the sw before it goes too far or it'll strip the main drive screw. Yes, you can twist the knurled knob by hand w/the motor removed. You'll see when you have it apart, there used to be nice pics posted here...
98 CSVT, basic mod's, my slowest car yet but still faster than the wife's Talon Tsi AWD. Not by much, though. Now if I could get the back wheels to do something....

BTW the trick, if I remember, is to pop out the center bezel (w/the lights) in order to get the whole ass'ly off... hope that helps.

just a suggestion... you MUST put everything in positioned correctly beforehand, and even if you do.... if your car is exposed to anything outside of room temp those gears will be toast again in a yr or 2. My advice is to get a few spare motors (cheap, from a boneyard) and lose the cams entirely. You really don't need 'em - they will always wind up breaking anyway. My $.02.

Just want to share - on mine motor actually gears were fine, but black plastic housing was broke into pieces.

what do you mean lose the cams entirely? i dont need them? what are they and how do i do it without them? my sunroof motor ate the white gear and i am saveing for a new motor are you saying i dont have to get a new motor? also the cheapest sunroof motors around here are like $100 at junkyards.
