I have been thinking of what kind of tires to get in 215/45-17. First I was thinking about all-seasons after my "fun" winter spent sliding around on my stock KDWs. I notice many people have the Pirelli P7000 SUPERSPORT. But the reviews and ratings seemed to show that they are lacking performance-wise. So I did a search on Tire Rack for their ultra high and high performance all seasons and these looked the most promising.

1. Continental ContiExtremeContact ($87) - new? very good ratings/reviews but very little feedback could be misleading

2. Sumitomo HTR+ ($98) - pretty respectable ratings overall

3. Bridgestone Potenza RE950 ($137) - not as much snow traction as the other two but seem to do pretty well in the others

Anyone have comments or suggestions?

I have heard nothing but good things about the Sumitomo but I don't have any personal experience.

I am actually considering putting the the Continentals on my Corvette even though I'll have to downsize to the 245/50-16 series. For the price ($69) I don't care if they only lasted 10000 miles.

FOR WINTER? maybe if you want to DIE!! Go with the continentals judging by the price. The bridgestones are also good and they will last forever! The pirelli's are a good tire, but they are way too loud(from experience). Just read the reviews, I think somebody said something about studded snow tires being quieter than the pirelli's. But if your looking for an all-season stay away from the FZ4's

All seasons (any all season) suck compared to winter tires. Ultra performance all seasons are even worse.

According to tests I have seen, winter tires have 60% more traction in the wet and in cold (<23 F), not to metion exponential traction advantages on snow and ice.

In summary, ultra performance all seasons will disapoint with only an incremantal traction increase over your KDWs.

Yeah, that's the other thing I've been considering. The only problem is if I wanted to try autocross I'd rather have the 16's so that I'd stay in the stock class. Three sets of wheels is not a possibility, so I guess I have to decide...
