Does anyone know the part # of the remote control trunk lock solenoid? It is the part that opens the trunk when you use the "Trunk" button on the remote control.

Mine has been making an awful loud buzzing sound lately, so I took it apart. It turns out that the metal gear in the solenoid has a broken tooth! I can't believe that a gear tooth broke! Talk about a cheap metal part.

Also, does anyone know if the metal gear inside the solenoid can be bought separately? I'd hate to spend $50-60 for a new solenoid, when all I need is a new metal gear.

i have a 96 contour, i had replaced the same part( the motor selenoid for the trunk) it also had a broken gear, one tooth missing... i too did not want to pay for a whole new unit.. i have a metal cutting latch(small model type) and tried to do it, looked a piles of junk i have, kids old toys, and stock of old parts, could not find anything to use and figured it would take too long to do it, so i broke down and got a new selenoid/motor for the trunk.. if i could have been done cheaper i would have done it as i usually do it when needed........
sorry.

Nope, can't just buy the gear. Same failure mode as my last one and I also could not believe how completely cheap that gear was. But hey, it's "MADE IN FRANCE" so no wonder it's crap.

Make sure you save the rod that runs from the solenoid to the latch, because it is a seperate part.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the P/N handy. Bill Jenkins got me my replacement while still at his old job. Ran about $60 with shipping. It's starting to act up in the same way from time to time.

Just to follow up...

I just picked up a remote trunk solenoid at a junk yard for $20. I opened it up and made sure the metal gear had all of its teeth before I paid for it. I plan on replacing it in the next few days.
