I want to replace the original radio HU on my SVT with a better quality one that can play more reliably CD-Rs and with an integrated clock like the original. Nothing too sophisticated. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Sony Xplod HU that I got used from Silver Snake, it works great, and I have never had a problem w/ it, especially not w/ CD-Rs.

It's all about balance.

Alpine wink BTW i'm looking into the same thing, a new HU and got alot more detailed respones from the Car/audio forum you might want to check there.
Whats your price range and style? those are some of the questions you might want to ask that way you get better respones.

i just bought a aiwa cdc-x227 removeable face it's really nice, except i'm having trouble with the wires, i finally got my gay ass factory head unit out and now the wires are ghey. but once i get that resolved then i'd suggest you buy this one. it was only 160.98 with tax and the lower version with non-detachable face is only 119.00plus tax. www.circuitcity.com smile

Same here... have an Aiwa CDC-X317 in my car. Love it. They redesigned the models recently (which is what Lynx has now). Funny thing, I love mine to death but nobody else in my family can figure it out. The 'power' button is a tiny thing in the corner, and the 'function' (AM/FM/CD) button is another tiny one. Maybe the new design is better.. I dunno

For the price (I paid appx $130) it's got good sound with the stock speakers, and is pretty attractive in the dash.

Maybe I'm too much into having gadgets and cool toys in my car... I went to a Rockford Fosgate 9300x mp3/cd player, with powered slide face, removeable face, and control for 8 cd changer in trunk... $400 head unit though. Pretty sweet setup, but not gentle on my wallet.

Words of wisdom...
-I'm too old for this sh*t.
-Dirty jews have well laundered money.

My Aiwa (see sig) plays MP3's. I have a CDR with 170 songs on it (about 17 CD's, better than a changer). 23Watts RMS x 4 channel.

Got it from Crutchfield ($199). A little more than some places but included great instructions and wiring harness adapters. Worth a look.
