I am going to purchase an exhuast system for my 99' svt and was wondering if anyone can give me some input on the differences in sound between exhaust systems(possibly sound clips of the exhausts). I want an exhaust that is loud with a low rumble but not raspy. If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.

My Yo-Dude with Magnaflow muffler (now called Tru-Bendz) is pretty loud when idling and especially at wot. Sounds very good with some rasp to it. Rasp seems to depend on which y-pipe is used also. Yo-Dude can now be had with a borla muffler now. Yo-Dude is the cheapest in cost, but a pretty good system for the money.

I know that the Magnaflow website has some sound files; I just swapped out the stock resonator with a Magnaflow one, and you should have seen the eyes on the muffler guy go up afterwards -- and he's a Flowmaster dealer! It'll put a smile on your face, that's for sure!
But as for a whole exhaust system? Hmmmm. Good luck!

Local CEGer SVTFORME2 replaced his stock resonator with a Vibrant Resonator and the car sounds really good.
Andy W. replaced his stock resonator with an Edelbrock and it sounded really good, too.
Borla - like stock, but louder. Puuuurs at WOT.
Bassani - Screams. Loud and raspy. I had to add an Edelbrock to tone it down.
Can't speak for any others since I have not heard any of them 1sthand.

Let's not forget the Cardoc special... It's been so long since I've been on the sight I totally forgot the fellows name (nice guy too), but his Contour.org username used to be Cardoc (just checked the userlist, if he's still around, that's no longer his name). Anyway, he did a custom job, bought two tips (chose your poison) and a single center inlet 2.5" to dual outlet 2.25" which would then be placed where the stock resonator currently resides. Then there's be duals from the muffler (roughly middle of the car) back. This produces great sound, and opens up the exhaust, but not too much. I have the parts, but still have yet to do the job. Parts were about 100 for a Flowmaster muffler (it's basically a metal box with a triangular metal blade to "muffle", it really just tunes) and two SS 3.5" tips that I found on sale somewhere. Labor will run me somewhere between 250 and 350, that's what I've been shopping around for. So it's pretty close monetarily to buying a prefab system. Of course it'd cost more to get this custom job mandrel bent. Considering how open this custom system is, I don't believe the crush bends are that much of a negative point (might even be good for maintaining back pressure at lower engine speeds). Someday I'll get it done and I'll tell the world (also record it and put it online). Anyway, just another idea to add to the pile.

Let's forgot that whole ordeal altogether.

You could check the yodude website. They have sound clips also with their system and different mufflers, etc.. etc.. I've got the Yodude with the magnaflow. Very nice sound, except with a bit too much drone in my taste. Very very light rasp. Almost un-noticeable.

Demon, have you gotten any dyno runs done since you did your tru-duals? I'm hoping you might have some runs done before you changed and can get some after results to SHOW that mandrel bends are out there for a reason. I've heard people slamming mandrel bends because of lack of evidence on actual HP/TQ gains.
I guess it would take dyno runs with each setup on the same car to see for sure.

What??? That's just insane.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that crush bends are terrible for exhaust flow and velocity.
Let them be ignorant. It's their loss.

The only thing that isn't proven, IMO, is the need for true-duals on a 2.5L - which is not to say that there are no gains over a single setup, just that they have yet to be documented.
