Was just asking to see who has tried an aftermarket shifter in the Contour. I have a 98 SVT and believe it came with an improved shifter already but understand B&M makes a version and wonder if it is worth it.Also how much time or work might be involved? Thanks for the time.

Yes B&M makes an aftermarket and I like mine alot. It doesn't take long at all maybe a 1/2 hour.

Don't forget to FORGET to put the centering spring back on.

The shifter works and feels incredibly better without it forcing the stick to the center each shift. (I.E. Banging it into the stops between gears!)

i'll agree to that...i had trouble getting that spring on right...and i gave up on it,and i'm glad because the feel is alot better without it...

i did try it...as a matter of fact i more than tried it i still have it,and love it....

but even the steeda you either reattach the centering spring or not...it doesn't differ from the b&m in that way...and the 2-3 shift assist part included with the steeda doesn't fit the tour(only the focus)...

I'd definitely recommend a B&M. As far as the centering spring, i may be a rookie rower...but arent any of you scared of throwing it into the wrong gear?

is there one for the pre 98 guys? i cut like 2 inches off my stock shifter, for the asthetic reason, and its a little tough to get into 5th gear
