My car is 95 GL, V6.
which code-reader should I use? OBD-I or OBD-II ?
From Hayne's Manual, it's said that OBD-I applies to 95 Contours.
I got one from Wal-Mart, but the connector doesn't agree with the connector from PCM.
BTW: Is the PCM connector located on the passanger side of the firewall under the hood?
Thanks!

DTC connector is on the Driver's side, under the dash. Looks like a Black connector hanging straight down, just below the headlamp switch. When you look inside of the connector, it looks like a "D" with connections inside it.

If you have a Haynes manual for your 95 (OBD-I), then you most certainly have the instructions for using a paper clip to read codes. Don't waste your money on a reader, from what I know for OBD-I cars, it is just an overpriced paperclip. You can read any code without one (for non-OBD-II cars).
Oh, and FWIW, I thought the OBD-I Connector was under the hood? I know the OBD-II connectors are in the driver's compartment.

Yup you're OBD-I and the OBD connecter is under the hood on the '95, just behind the driver's side strut tower -has a little plastic hat on it when came from factory, -might be gone/lost now.

According to this: http://members.aol.com/carpix256/library/us796obd.txt 95 Contour/mystique has some early (non-standard) version of obd II.

Probably had the OBD-II style software control algorithms but not the standard hardware and fault indicator conditions of true OBD-II. Would make sense, since Ford knew the car was going to have to switch after just one model year, so might as well develop the engine control software to be as OBD-II compliant as possible, to prevent problems converting for 96MY. But, the fault codes are certainly not OBD-II and the datalink connector is different and not in the standard location.
