how can i pull the codes without going to the dealer? PLEASE dont everyone get rude and tell me to search for past posts; i have tried to find the information on this website, but i cant figure out how to do it.

shoot, i cant even figure out how to do the "moosing" fix. i found it in "common problems," but i thought there was a way to fix it without asking the dealer to "do the TSB 97-15-05 for $90 labor plus parts" (or whatever it says)

i just dont know how to get the info i need off this website, without asking people.

If you have an AUTOZONE nearby, they might do it for you.

Look under your passenger side glove compartment - right on the floor where the carpet meets the back of the car. Now look up, the should be a stretch of carpet-like ceiling that can be removed. Remove it. Youll see the bottom of the PCM there, held in place by a white u-clip that is bolted into the firewall area. Underneath that clip on the pcm is a white tear-tag that has you code and your ecm number. This is for 2.5 v6. Cheers

If you would like, i can send you a private message with instuctions on how to search for stuff.

You can buy an obd2 reader to pull the codes. www.obd-2.com has one that is software and a cable. You will need a laptop to run it on, or a long extension cord and a desktop laugh

Though, (no offense intended) i assume you are not a "techincal" person at least not with computers so you may just want to pay someone to pull the codes.

Not the ECU revision info but the CEL codes are what he was after.

Some independent shops can do it for a lot less than the dealer. Mine is being diagnosed for $75 today.

Once you find someone to read the codes from your computer, jot them down and post the code numbers here if you want advice on causes/repairs. You can look up what the codes mean by going to the FAQ/Common Problems & Complaints/Engine section and looking at the write up on the check engine light. (or look here)

As "RoadRunner" mentioned, check with AutoZone. I live in the Atlanta Metro area and my local Autozone does it for FREE. They will read the code and give you the meaning of the code as well. Once you have completed the repair or parts replacement, they can reset/clear the code for you to turn off the CEL.

thanks for all your suggestions, folks.

i really appreciate the help, AND not getting ragged by everyone for not already knowing the answer.

i am going to check with a few auto parts stores, and if they dont help, i am going to go through with the appointment i have with Ford on friday morning.

i DO have the PremiumCare on my car, so my $50 deductible should cover all my "warranty-able" concerns.

one more QUICK QUESTION: will someone PLEASE tell me how to fix "the moose" ? mine does it really loud, and it is embarassing; people always tell me what a "nice car" i have, then i get embarrassed when it does that.

is it correct that fixing the moose involves a new intake air hose, IAC motor, and throttle body?

i feel like i read a simpler fix once before.

thanks in advance.
