I am planning on replacing the oil pan gasket on my 95 Duratec. Many great posts and lots of advice found using SEARCH. I am looking for advice on the best RTV to use for the parting line sealing. I don't want to go to all this trouble and have a leak at the end!

The general red High Temp RTV?
Good 'ol FORD stuff (from shop manual)?
Others?

Thanks for the advice.

Gray RTV.

It is made to be used with oil.

The fumes that most RTV sealers give off can damage oxygen sensors. Check the label and make sure that it is compatable with oxygen sensors.

Thanks for you input guys.

I found some "Permatex ULTRA BLACK OEM Hi-Temp RTV Silicone" at Bi-Mart. Specifically states

Sensor-Safe
Low Odor/ Non-Corrosive
Outstanding oil resistance
Excellent Adhesion

3.35 oz tube was $4.49

What needs to be done to remove the pan? Take off Y pipe thing? What about sub frame?

Try doing a search for "oil pan gasket" (or was it "oil leaks"?) You will find many good comments. The subframe is an issue - impossible to torque two of the bolts due to very minimal clearance with subframe. People are getting around it by open ended wrenches and "feel". Thats good enough for me.

I am about 99% sure that Permatex UltraBlack is the same sealer that is used at the factory (Cleveland Engine Plant) on the oil pan where the block and front cover meet. I would go ahead and use it. Just a little dab will do. Too much and a chunk might break off and go into your pickup tube.

Permatex ultra black or gray.
Use it sparingly.
