OP tbunder Member T Joined: Oct 2000 Posts: 226 indianola ia usa	sometimes. today, i slammed hard on the brakes, they locked up and then the abs light came on. i shut off the car and restarted it, and it went off after resetting itself again (i saw it go dim as it always bogs down the headlight at night when it resets). could there be something wrong with abs or what? the car locked up, but in the snow i can feel the abs working. so i know it works. any ideas? thanks a lot. i will always have a comeback! :o)

Norman Member N Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 293 Montreal Canada	Thunder... I recently had the exact same problem. Under light braking (dry or icy roads) my ABS worked fine. However, under hard braking (slapping the peddle down)...my light would come on and stay on until I restarted the car. All would work fine until I had to slam the brakes on again. I took it to the dealer and it was my ABS traction/anti-skid module. They replaced it and all is fine. Thank goodness for warranty....the unit was $850.00. Extreme LX Member E Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 365 Atlanta	When the ABS is used under hard brakeing, or slick conditions. It sets a code from your ECM. Its is nothing to be concearn ed about. On Ford`s you need to disconnect the negitave treminal for atleast 2 minutes. This will clear the codes. If the problem percist then you mey have a historical code, which may mean that the ABS sencer is not operating proplery.. Get someone to scan your Tour if you still have a problem. 98 LX, Eibach`s .... ICWrims / Potenza`s.... Svt kit w /duals... BASF Extreme Ocean paint( complete color change).... Bullit gas door....
