No, they got the cops called on them, arrested, and the filming of the movie stunted, and the rental company sued MTV for $50,000. 
Of COURSE they paid for it! The whole budget for the movie was only $5 mil. And $1m of that was for the final scene alone. I think MTV would have been happy to pay off the $4500 Contour considering how much they spent on the production of the movie and how much it grossed.
