I have obtained a UIM and LIM, The UIM I have already fitted the LIM I noticed has larger secondary ports and slighty larger primary ports 33 > 35 and 30 > 33 I have a 98 V6 Mondeo, I noticed that the Fuel Injectors are different on the fuel rail and also the electrical connectors are different, is it ok to use my own fuel rail and injectors and if I do is it worth it and will I notice any difference.

Is the new rail a returnless one? If so, you won't be able to use the rail. It should not be a problem for you to swap over your existing rail to the new LIM.
You won't need the 19lb injectors until you exceed 170 hp at the wheels.

The rail is the same as my own, The UIM and LIM came off a 2000 cougar (Built 8/99), its the return system the rail looks identical except the injectors are a different type of plug and they seem to have 4 little holes in the end where the petrol comes out and I think mine only had 2. Will I see a benefit from fitting this will it smooth out the power curve or make it a more refined drive??

I wouldn't bother with the fuel rail -- I doubt you would notice a difference unless you have a lot of miles (150K+) on you current ones.
Are the ports bigger than your old ones on both the LIM and UIM? I knew the LIM's were bigger, but didn't know anything about large UIM ports unless you got the ST200 (extrude honed) one.

Thanks Lance
The UIM is off a 2000 Cougar as is the LIM, shouldn't they be matched to each other?, I have measured the LIM now it is cleaned and as I said the ports are 35mm and 33mm respectivly. I don't want to waste my time fitting something that isn't going to make any difference..Even if it makes the engine sound more refined..Thnx

You tell me! Do the UIM ports measure the same?
If the ports match, and are bigger than what you already have, you will notice a difference!

Lance I have already fitted the UIM but didn't check the ports I didn't think they would be different, I fitted it because I had the oppertunity to get it cleaned properly and sprayed black, I didn't put it one because I thought It was any different, however I don't want to strip it all down to find that it doesn't make any difference, what if the UIM has the smaller ports will I still notice a difference.

Unless the UIM has been extrude honed, the ports won't be 33/35mm. Only the SVT/ST200 UIM's are that big and they are pretty spendy at this point since most of them are gone.
However, the larger LIM should make some difference, not sure just how much though.

They are most "definitely" NOT that large.
Even a Dual Honed UIM only specs at around 30.5mm / 31.8mm respectively.
Figure 1-2mm smaller each for a single honed (98/98.5 SVT) and 2-4mm smaller each for a regular UIM.
The returnless LIM he picked up specs at:
LIM (Returnless) >Inlet Primary: 33.5mm Secondary: 34.7mm >Outlet Primary: 32.5mm Secondary: 34mm
The main problem he will run into is that the non-SVT's DO NOT have Extrude Honed heads! That makes their head inlets ports a good 2mm smaller repectively then the 99/00 SVT which spec'd at 33mm/34mm. (98/98.5 - only had secondary ports EH'd once)
2000 SVT #674

It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.

Hi,i'm a friend of Neil's and would be interested to hear your views. I fitted an ST200/SVT UIM to my standard V6 (along with the SVT TB) i did notice a difference-has anyone dynoed this mod to see if it's not just in the mind so's to speak??!! Comparing the LIM Neil has to the one i have the ports are a lot bigger-i would say the large port on mine is about the size of the small port on his! Would fitting a LIM to a car with the SVT TB & UIM make any difference? I'm just trying to figure as to why the car feels better with the SVT UIM & TB when there is still this bottle neck lower down in the engine?? (& surely if we fitted the LIM the bottle neck is still in the actual head ports?) TIA for your views........
