You would have to cut out a little and they will fit behind the grilles, my friend has it done on his SVT. On mine I cut out a wood baffle to fit the 6x8 hole then I just cut out the wood to fit a 6 1/2 speaker and mounted the tweeter just below the mid sounds way better then my friends 6x9's and I didn't have to destroy my door. Just my .02 cents good luck.

It depends on which 6x9. Some drop right in (maybe drill new holes) and others need some help. Either trim the metal or make an adapter.
If you plan to amplify them, I highly recommend custom components over 6x9 coaxial.

You'll be happy to know that Alpine SPS6939S are a direct fit (apart from drilling four new holes for each speaker) on the Mondeo, and prob. should also be for the 'tour. I just fitted four of these front and rear. They Rock the boat....! alpine SPS6939S Here's a pic from an front door installation on a Mondeo : Mondeo 6x9 install

If you get one that won't fit directly, you can use MDF spacers to mount it. Be careful though. I sorta wrecked a set of CDT HD mids doing this. I didn't notice that they contacted the inside of the door panel. It just required some work with the dremmel tool to take care of the problem.
Some 6x9's have a tweeter that does protrude a bit above the speaker cone. Something to watch for when shopping.
