it's a sensor. I'm having the same problem with my beretta (but still didn't change it)

the dealership that replaced my water pump/thermostat musta had previous experience...they refilled my reservoir to maybe just a half inch below top....i was actually thinking about draining some off but its not boiling over or losing any so i'll let it be
