I have a 98 e1 csvt, so far I've installed a k&n air filter and cut off the airbox, sho shop y-pipe and hiflow cat.. but I haven't changed the mufflers. First of all, are the stock mufflers very restrictive. Also, would there be a noticeable difference if I put on flowmasters or something?
What other mufflers work well with the svt without spending a ton of money?

don't think you'll see many gains with the mods you have unless you go cat-back. . .just what I've noticed around here from people posting dyno's, etc. . .

There are quite a few of us around here that have Flowmasters 40 series and are very happy with the sound. Just a muffler alone will not give you any noticable increase in performance. In your case, since you have the y-pipe w/cat, you might be happy with replacing the stock resonator (known restriction) with a high flow resonator and then either the flowmasters or magnaflow mufflers.

You will feel a difference with the removal of the resonator, exspecially with your other mods that you have. But I would suggest to at least put something in its place. Some have stated that the resulting drone, from just removing the res and sticking a 2.5" pipe in place of it, is almost unbearable.

With a little searching here or in the Duratec forum you will find a ton a suggestions. Take your time, do your research (listen to sound files of others exhausts and read, read, read). Sounds like you are on the right track though.

Are you still gonna try and make the Nashville/Huntsville Meet? You will hear a ton of different exhaust set-ups there. Also would allow you to talk one on one with others, which can prove to be very valuable!!

As stated, replace the stock resonator with a Magnaflow from Stazi or an Edelbrock.

For the price of buying 2 mufflers and having them welded in, you might as well save up for a cat back such as the Bassani/Borla, Brullen/etc. for the gains.

I'm not sure about the nashville thing, I'm in the military so it's hard to get off sometimes. When are the dates again?
Who do you think makes the best cat-backs for the money?

Dates for the meet are April 25th in Huntsville, AL and the 26th in Nashville. Well we are acutally meeting in Franklin, Tn on the 26th. If you can get off and make it, send me a PM and let me know. I have 10 rooms reserved in Huntsville for everyone that wants to do both dates. You can check out the hotel info here.

You can check in the Group Buy forum for some of the better buys on cat back systems. Also, best for the money is a figure of speech, so like stated before search in the forums for tons of info. There way to much to list here. I would search mostly in the Duratec forum.
