depending on mileage on your car, you can still get recall work done for certain harnesses, including the fan control harness. recall 99MO3 , i believe info can be found amongst all the info on the main part of the site.

I believe the wiring harness recall was good for 100K.

Temperature sender sends signal to PCM which decides when fan is to come on. Hi-speed if a/c on, lo-speed for normal coolant temperature increase. I believe hi-speed also comes on if excessive coolant temp is reached.
In you car hi-speed relay feeds fan motor directly but the low-speed feeds thru' a dropping resistor (the part you have puchased).
You don't state location but, if warm enough, you could turn on a/c and check hi-speed fan operation. Alternately pulling the relays and jumpering the appropriate relay socket terminals to simulate contact operation is a means of checking. Latter procedure requires substantial jumper wire and battery covered with towel as precaution.

Underhood wiring harness has a long extended warranty and the heater fan switch and dropping resistor a shorter one.

update- the fan doesnt come on at all.. so no lo or hi-speed testing is possible.. the relays in the distribution box have been replaced.. the warranty on the heater blower switch is 72k.. i called again today.. now the part i bought says resistor on the package and is located at the bottom of the fan shroud.. i looked at it today and it looks like i have to take the entire fan/radiator out to change.. going from teh bottom of the car you cant pull the resistor out bc its on the inside fo the shroud.. now im hoping that i can unbolt part of the shroud and pull it forward so that i can pull the resistor out from the back.. any opinions on that?
