My SE has 165K and was running like a champ. The check engine light has been on for a good 2 years, but was "just" emissions. Now I have been troubleshooting sensors and valves. Both O2 sensors, EGR valve, Mass Air Flow Sensor, throttle body cleaned, and replaced. The car idles up as high as 1.5 and then so low it stalls...like it is breathing or something. It always stalls at stops.I have heard the car will run like this is I put new parts in , but do not reset the computer through the dealer...Any ideas???

Sounds like a more severe version of what I've got, which eventually threw a Too Lean error code. This means either that the MAF or something is throwing it off, or that the oxygen sensors are bad and it's actually too rich. I'm going to clean the MAF tomorrow (while at the same time putting the stock intake back on to pass smog).

95ContourSE, what do you mean by reset the computer by the dealer? As far as I know, reseting the computer just means disconnected the battery for twenty minutes or so. Wouldn't be surprised if that didn't solve your problem. Unless of course, you already tried this, in which case I will shut up laugh

Disconnecting the battery to reset the computer may help your problem, but I suspect some loose hoses, or possibly a bad IAC valve. If the car runs rough or misses, you might also consider new plugs and wires as well a new fuel filter.

Is there any sound associated with the stalling? When my IAC went south, there was a subtle sound similar to the "moosing" noise. Also exhibited very similar idle problems...just my $0.02 worth.

Thanks for your suggestions so far. I have disconnected the battery already and my o2 sensors are brand new. I could do another tuneup just to be safe and replace the fuel filters. I have the car going into FORD this Thursday, I will let you know.

if it seems to pulse up and down prior to stalling suspect the PCV valve (its supposed to be changed every 20K miles)

Can also check my website where I have a huge section on idle problems
